Indiana is a US state, admitted to the union in 1816. It was in use as a name in the late 1800s for girls, albeit infrequently. As a man's name it came to the attention of the general populace with Indiana Jones, the dashing archaeologist hero of a series of movies made in the 1980s starring Harrison Ford.
